IBSC South African Conference 2014
 |
To teach boys is a special privilege. I salute all schools who Believe in Boys. Although at times it seems as if they inhabit a different world to those of their parents and teachers. Finding suitable ways to communicate with them in the home, in the classroom, on sports field, in the music room and on the stage is an exciting challenge facing all of us who are at the coalface of mentoring boys to manhood in South African schools today. |
That is what this 2014 conference is about. Taking the theme from the name of the school ‘Wynberg’, we have adapted the biblical injunction not to put new wine into old skins but to put 'New Wine in New Wineskins’. Our keynote speakers have all been asked to give their views on the most effective ways of doing this in their own fields.
These ‘sommeliers’, who are experts in their craft, are set to tease our palates and to challenge us to taste further. A list of these stimulating (sparkling?) speakers are listed elsewhere in this website.
Both our keynote speakers and presenters of break-away groups will be asked to explore ways whereby we can endeavour to release the potential of boys in our schools.
We look forward to welcoming you to our conference in March 2014, which could change your approach to teaching and developing boys in your schools.
We also take this opportunity to call for speakers who feel that they can contribute to our breakaway sessions. We invite delegates to present papers on best practices in their schools on any aspect of education which is applicable to our conference theme. Those who wish to do so must please send in a ten line summary of their presentations by January 24 to Jeanette Muller. We will let everyone know by the end of January who the presenters will be at these breakaway sessions.
We also intend to give delegates a real Wynberg experience. Look at our website for details of our historical walking tours around places of interest in the suburb; a ‘wine and chocolate tasting’ session and a conference dinner at the stunning Moyo Restaurant on the slopes of Table Mountain.
If our conference were a wine, we would describe it as a fresh, lively and hearty vintage which we hope will leave you with a lingering flavour. We thank our sponsors who have generously supported our attempt to make this 2014 Conference something special.
